Changemaker Nomination: Oglala Lakota Cultural & Economic Revitalization Initiative

Next in our series of 2012 Changemaker Nominations suggested by a chocolate lover!

Congratulations to Oglala Lakota Cultural & Economic Revitalization Initiative:

Here’s what Jonathan has to say about this fearless organization:

“With the arrival of the Europeans on the American continents so began the destruction of a culture that was committed to the Earth as a sacred entity.  Today, after hundreds of years of oppression, re-education internment camps, political murders, and other untold trauma experiences the culture of the Oglala Lakota is beginning to be reborn.  A culture based on absolute responsibility to the earth and psycho-spritual development of the individual and the tribe is re-emerging.  Lets support this rebirth!”

A little more info:

“Our Mission
…is to create and facilitate the conditions for resilience, self-sufficiency, economic independence and cultural revitalization amongst the Lakota at Pine Ridge reservation in South Dakota.

Our Programs
…are far reaching, covering every facet of life on the rez. We start with the creation of a demonstration site on an 8000 acre horse ranch that will be totally self-sufficient in energy, food, water and sustainable shelter. This will be the center for educational and economic interaction with the reservation. Seeing is believing and it is important to demonstrate effective, affordable and doable ways of growing food, building homes, and providing energy and water sustainably.”
